Getting an online degree has never been easier than it is now, with thousands of colleges and universities across the country offering virtual classes, competitive degree programs, and flexible enrollment. Excelsior College, located in Albany, New York, is just one of many regionally accredited schools that offers online undergraduate and graduate degrees to meet the needs of each and every student.

Here are five things you might not know about Excelsior College!

1. Excelsior has helped more than 170,000 students earn a degree within the past 50 years!

Serving mostly non-traditional, adult working students through online degree programs, Excelsior College is known for its flexibility and commitment to ensure student success. With over 80% of their enrollment working part- or full-time, they understand that a typical education is not always the best option for everyone. Their courses are eight weeks long, giving students enough time to learn the material while also giving them the ability to fit more credits into the length of a typical college or university period.

2. Excelsior College is comprised of three different schools

Excelsior College is comprised of the School of Undergraduate Studies, the School of Graduate Studies, and the School of Nursing. In 2019 alone, over 6,000 students earned their nursing degrees, and nearly 15,000 earned undergraduate degrees in one of six key areas. Many of these students were working adults or active military members, offering merit to Excelsior’s claims that their program helps students succeed.

3. Excelsior offers a wide variety of scholarships

To apply for an Excelsior Scholarship, simply apply for FAFSA to check your eligibility. Each specific degree program offers a specific Excelsior Scholarship, but there are also scholarships available for veterans and their family members as well as scholarships based on financial need. The Excelsior Scholarship provides tuition awards to eligible students attending New York State’s public colleges and universities (like SUNY and CUNY).

4. Excelsior College makes transferring a breeze!

If you’ve decided you want to finish your degree faster by taking Excelsior’s accelerated eight-week courses, you can transfer credits earned elsewhere without losing progress toward your goal. Even students transferring from a degree program outside of the United States are eligible to enroll pending an evaluation. Many students transfer from SUNY and CUNY to fast-track their degree completion. There are some time limits on credit transfers, so make sure to contact an advisor before attempting to transfer credits that are more than a few years old.

5. Excelsior College offers personalized advising and college support

Academic advisors and college staff are there to help you navigate Excelsior’s unique program. With online reading and writing labs, as well as accessibility services and tech support, if you need help you can always count on someone at Excelsior to have your back. They also offer credit by exam, to help students gain a deeper knowledge of a specific area of study without having to enroll in a full course on the subject.

We live in a world where most people are on the go all the time, and life happens fast. Online colleges with competitive degree programs like Excelsior are dedicated to helping busy students achieve success, and providing valuable resources to get them there. Whether you’re just starting on your undergraduate degree, or looking to transfer from CUNY or SUNY to graduate a little sooner, Excelsior has programs to fit the diverse needs of each student with low rates that won’t break your bank to get you there.
