L.A. Unified has joined with the state of California in officially recognizing the third week of May as Classified School Employee Week in honor of classified school employees and the contributions they make to the educational community. Each day this week, we will profile Classified Employees selected by the Personnel Commission’s Organizational Excellence Branch for their exemplary work in support of students. Today, we honor Alexa Guzman from Hazeltine Avenue Elementary School and Ling Lee from the Facilities Services Division for their work as Technical/Professional employees.
As a Healthy Start navigator at Hazeltine Avenue Elementary School in Van Nuys, Alexa has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to families by providing comprehensive school-integrated services and community-engagement activities.
Described as diligent, punctual, intelligent and compassionate, Alexa is very experienced and knowledgeable in the area of community outreach. She has worked collaboratively with a wide variety of school- and community-based agencies that provide resources for her families.
“It is people like Alexa who maintain the quality and credibility of the District at the local level, and America as a whole,” one Hazeltine parent said. “She helped our family at a very challenging time get the medical coverage we needed when it was inadvertently canceled by mistake. She was always informative, insightful and proactive during the process.”
Alexa supports and advocates for students and their families in order to best meet their physical, emotional, and academic needs. Her strong interpersonal skills, along with her experience working with diverse student populations, are some of the qualities which make her deserving of recognition as an Outstanding Classified Employee of the District.
Ling Lee, an assistant contract administration analyst for Facilities Construction Contracts, is an exceptional employee with an impressive record of perfect attendance. She is always eager to support staff and clients. She is very motivated to learn new processes and embraces challenges, despite the constant changes that occur within the Facilities Services Division.
Ling also volunteers to raise money for the Homeless Education Program’s holiday campaign.
“Ling was instrumental to the success of this year’s Sharing Brings Hope Charitable Campaign,” said Gizelle Czene, the division’s assistant contract administration manager. “She went out of her way to support and promote the Facilities Contracts’ campaign, while staying on top of assisting units with contracting issues.”
Ling is breath of fresh air and never ceases to help and contribute to the betterment of our organization, just the qualities that make her an everyday hero.
