The Milk + Bookies organization, together with 25 students from the Leadership Class at  Paul Revere Charter Middle School and Magnet Center, recently visited 112th Street Elementary School to celebrate the joy of giving books, making new friendships, and reading books.

Milk + Bookies is a non-profit organization “that exposes young children to how great it is to give back while celebrating the love of a good book.”

The Milk + Bookies’ “Leaders + Readers” program, under the direction of Courtney Collins, provided every student at 112th Street Elementary with free books. She also paired students from the two schools as “reading buddies.” The Leadership Class students from Paul Revere organized a book drive for their Milk + Bookies visit to 112th Street Elementary School.  The Paul Revere Middle School community responded with overwhelming generosity, donating more than 5,400 books for the students at 112th Street Elementary.

The Leadership Class, accompanied by student journalists, arrived with their gifts, visited the kindergarten classes and met their “reading buddies.” They read a special book with them, and gave each student two books to take home. The beautiful sound of reading filled the rooms and new friendships were forged over great books.

The nonprofit Milk + Bookies promotes public service while celebrating the love of a good book.

The day ended with smiles, hugs, dancing – and books, books, and more books – and promises to keep in touch. As a Paul Revere student shared, “This was such an amazing experience.  I want to come back and do this again!  I loved reading with my little buddy!”  To which a kindergarten scholar responded, “Hope you can come back again to read with me.  You’re my “bestest” reading buddy in the whole world.”

Fortunately for the young scholars at 112th Street, thanks to the efforts and generosity of Paul Revere, there will be a second distribution of free books before Winter Break begins.  Thank you Paul Revere!  Thank you Milk + Bookies!

Due to a prior agreement, this event will take place at all the schools in the Jordan-Locke network. On behalf of ALL the students in the network, we are extremely grateful for the greatest gift that anyone can provide – the love of reading!
